The Downtown Showdown is primarily an awesome fishing event. What makes the event so awesome is not the fact that it takes place in beautiful West Palm Beach or that there’s a $10,000 payout for grand prize. Those things help, sure, but what really makes the event so awesome is the spirit behind it, a man named Scott Terry.
As stated on Tito’s website:
This tournament is held in honor of Scott Terry, an exceptional angler, community advocate, and friend of the Tito’s Handmade Vodka family. Scott dreamed of hosting a unique fishing tournament in Palm Beach County, one that truly celebrated the sport, and now, just over a year since his untimely passing, four fisherman are bringing his dream to life. Proceeds from this tournament and the surrounding festivities will benefit Lauren’s Kids, a non-profit organization in which Scott was very active. Lauren’s Kids educates adults and children about sexual abuse prevention through in-school curricula, awareness campaigns and speaking engagements around the country and the world. We are so proud to be part of this celebration, which realizes Scott’s vision.
Aside from bringing to life the fishing tournament that Scott always dreamed of; the organizers made the Downtown Showdown so much more. They created an entire family friendly event filled with food, drinks, music, cars, and art from local vendors.
Part of this years Downtown Showdown also included a Wing Invitational. For just $1 lucky locals were able to sample wings from Benny’s on the Beach, Cabo Flats – West Palm Beach, Copper Blues West Palm Beach, Dorrian’s Red Hand West Palm Beach, Frigate’s Waterfront Bar & Grill, Hooters, Kapow! Noodle Bar and Roxy’s Pub
2nd place winner would take home the Large Chicken Wing Trophy
And 3rd place would walk away with the Medium Chicken Wing Trophy
Grant was generous enough to share some awesome event photos with us:
We must say, all the wings looked pretty amazing. However, not everyone can be a winner- and ultimately there were only 3 awards to be claimed.
Frigate’s Waterfront Bar and Grill took home the 1st place trophy for best wings.
Cabo Flats took home the 2nd place award
And Hooters stole 3rd place
Aside from some finger-lickin’ good wings, there was of course plenty of Tito’s
Some seriously hot wheels
Lots of fish
And copious amounts of fun
Oh and I almost forgot to mention…there were also puppies! Seriously, they thought of everything.
These pups were from Pause for Veterans, an organization that “provides PTSD service dogs for injured veterans at no cost to the veteran, giving our nation’s heroes the medical help they need while simultaneously saving the lives of dogs that would otherwise face euthanasia.” This awesome organization reminds us a lot of the charity that we support monthly, Puppies Behind Bars. Puppies Behind Bars trains inmates to raise service dogs for wounded war veterans and explosive-detection canines for law enforcement.
For every blog post that we write with the content our Far Out customers provide us- we make an extra donation to Puppies Behind Bars in the name of the featured event. Thanks to Grant and the crew at Tito’s Vodka, we will be making an additional contribution in honor of the Downtown Showdown- an event that already does so much to help the community and charitable organizations of their own.
If you have photos from an event featuring Far Out Awards that you would like us to share on our blog and Facebook, please contact us so we can help spread the word. Don’t forget that we also specialize in creating custom awards, so if you can’t find what you’re looking for on our site- we can help create something custom to bring your vision to life.
