For our last #TrophyBackThursday we brought you the Independence Day Egg Roll Competition; an Asian-themed 4th of July event that put mundane backyard barbecues all over the country to shame. Just when we thought our customers couldn’t get any more Far Out, Kathryn wrote in to tell us about her Taco-centric 4th of July party. Back-to-back 4th of July #TBT’s that break the rules of tradition!? We can’t get enough!

So let’s taco bout Kathryn.

Kathryn ordered the Far Out Awards Taco Trophy for an Independence Day Party she was hosting at her home.

We asked Kathryn to tell us a little more about her event and why they were ordering a Taco Trophy for the 4th of July. As usual, the story did not disappoint:

Everyone LOVED the trophy.  We went from two participants to eight in large part because the trophy was a truly enviable prize.  We had a party at our home for Independence Day.  A little more than 80 people attended.  We hired a taquiza (guy who grills tacos right in front of you).  So, naturally, our friends got to thinking and said we ought to have a taco eating contest.  The winner ate 13 tacos.  It was extremely exciting.  Each participant had their own runner for beverages and additional tacos.  We had three judges to verify the count of tacos eaten.  Unfortunately, one  participant tried to swallow his first taco whole and choked.  He turned purple and someone was able to help him clear his airway.   He was fine.  The contest proceeded while we called an ambulance.  TRULY exciting!  We recommend anyone thinking of doing such a contest have all participants sign a waiver.

Okay so first of all…over 80 people?! We’re not sure we even know that many people… forget about getting them together in the same place at the same time. Clearly, Kathryn and her family are good company.

Secondly, A TAQUIZA!? This honestly is the most brilliant and Far Out party idea we have ever heard of and we’re embarrassed we didn’t  think of it first. Now we understand why we don’t have nearly as many friends.

The emotions we are feeling reading about this party are all over the place. The joy of unlimited tacos, the excitement of an intense eating contest, the absolute horror of someone choking on their taco and the ambulance having to come… it really is a party for the books.

Congrats to the Far Out taco eating champion who ate Lucky No. 13 Tacos! Definitely deserves a Far Out Award (and a handle of Pepto Bismol)!

Thanks Kathryn for sharing your story with us and allowing us to be a part of your wild party that will definitely be taco’d ’bout for years to come!
